PCBs (Polychlorinated Biphenyls)

Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) are synthetic chemicals once widely used in electrical equipment, paints, and other products due to their insulating and heat-resistant properties. However, they are toxic, persistent in the environment, and can accumulate in living organisms, posing health risks such as cancer and immune system issues. Since their ban in many countries in the late 20th century, efforts have been made to clean up contaminated sites and prevent further exposure. While PCBs are no longer produced legally, they can still be found in older equipment and buildings, making their management a continuing environmental concern.
