Patrick of Ireland, often known as Saint Patrick, is the patron saint of Ireland, celebrated on March 17th each year. Born in Roman Britain in the 4th century, he was kidnapped by Irish pirates at 16 and taken to Ireland as a slave. After escaping, he returned to Ireland as a missionary to convert the Irish to Christianity. He is credited with using the shamrock to explain the Christian Trinity. Saint Patrick's legacy includes the spread of Christianity in Ireland, and he is a symbol of Irish heritage and culture, honored globally with parades and festivities.
