Patricia Bath was a pioneering ophthalmologist and inventor who dedicated her career to improving eye care. She developed innovative techniques to treat blindness, especially cataracts, and was the first Black woman to receive a medical patent for her laser device that removes cataracts. Bath also co-founded the American Institute for the Prevention of Blindness and worked tirelessly to increase access to eye health services in underserved communities. Her work significantly advanced ophthalmology and helped many people regain or preserve their sight, making her a trailblazer in medical science and social justice.
