Patients with ANSD

Patients with Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder (ANSD) have hearing that is affected differently than typical hearing loss. Their inner ear detects sound normally, but the signal doesn’t transmit well to the brain due to issues with the auditory nerves or nerve pathways. As a result, they might hear sounds but have trouble understanding speech, especially in noisy environments. This condition varies among individuals and can be diagnosed with specific hearing tests. Management options include hearing aids, cochlear implants, or communication strategies to improve understanding and communication.
