PATHWAY HER2 assay
The PATHWAY HER2 assay is a laboratory test used to identify if breast cancer cells have an excess of a protein called HER2. This protein can promote the growth of cancer cells. Knowing the HER2 status helps doctors decide if targeted therapies, which specifically attack HER2-positive cancer, might be effective. The test uses a special technique called immunohistochemistry (IHC) to stain the cancer tissue sample and then evaluates how much HER2 protein is present. Accurate assessment of HER2 status ensures patients receive the most appropriate and effective treatment options.
