Pathophysiology of Coagulation Disorders

Coagulation disorders involve problems with the blood’s ability to form clots, which are essential to stop bleeding. These issues can arise when blood lacks certain proteins (clotting factors) or when platelets (tiny cells that help clot) are deficient or malfunctioning. As a result, people may bleed excessively or have difficulty stopping bleeding after injuries. Conversely, some disorders cause abnormal clot formation, leading to blockages in blood vessels. These imbalances in the clotting process disrupt normal blood flow and can cause serious health issues, including bleeding or thrombotic complications.
