Pathology of lymphoma

Lymphoma is a type of cancer that starts in lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell involved in immune defense. In lymphoma, these cells grow abnormally and uncontrollably, forming tumors typically in lymph nodes but also in other tissues. This disrupted growth results from genetic changes that affect cell regulation, causing lymphocytes to divide too quickly or not die when they should. As a result, the immune system’s function is impaired, and enlarged lymph nodes or masses may develop. The disease can spread to other parts of the body, and its progression depends on the specific type and characteristics of the lymphoma.
