Paternalism vs. Empowerment
Paternalism involves making decisions for others, believing it's best for their well-being, often assuming they need guidance or protection—similar to a parent guiding a child. Empowerment, on the other hand, focuses on enabling individuals to make their own choices, providing them with information, resources, and support to take control of their lives. While paternalism can risk limiting personal freedom, empowerment fosters independence and respect for people's ability to decide what's best for themselves. Both approaches aim to improve well-being but differ in who holds decision-making authority.
