Patch Testing

Patch testing is a medical procedure used to identify allergies, particularly to substances that come into contact with the skin. During the test, small amounts of various allergens are applied to patches placed on the skin, usually on the back. These patches are left on for 48 hours, after which a healthcare provider examines the skin for reactions, such as redness or irritation. By determining which substances cause a reaction, individuals can avoid allergens that trigger skin problems, leading to better management of conditions like eczema or contact dermatitis.
