Patani Malay people

The Patani Malay people are an ethnic group primarily residing in the southernmost provinces of Thailand, notably Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. They speak a Malay dialect and share cultural, religious, and historical ties with Malay populations in Malaysia and Indonesia. Predominantly Muslim, they maintain distinct customs, traditional attire, and customs rooted in their Malay heritage. Historically, the Patani Malay have sought greater recognition and autonomy due to cultural and political differences with the Thai government. Their identity is a blend of local traditions, Islamic practices, and regional history, making them a unique cultural community within Thailand.
