Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) Tags
Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) tags are small, electronic devices used for tracking and identifying animals or objects. They contain a microchip with a unique number and a coil of wire. When scanned with a special reader, the coil energizes the chip, which then transmits its unique ID back to the scanner. Because these tags are passive, they don’t have their own power source; instead, they rely on the reader’s electromagnetic field. PIT tags are commonly used in wildlife research, pet identification, and inventory management to monitor movements and gather data without causing harm.
