Paryaya
Paryaya is a traditional festival and rotation system of spiritual leadership in the Udupi Sri Krishna Matha, a prominent Hindu monastery in India. Every two years, responsibility for temple worship, management, and rituals is transferred from one designated priestly line (called a dyavoluru or Sannidi) to another, following a specific schedule. This ensures that different families or communities take turns overseeing religious practices, maintaining continuity and tradition. The Paryaya ceremony involves prayers, processions, and rituals, symbolizing unity and the preservation of spiritual heritage, while allowing each group to share in service and reverence for the deity Sri Krishna.
