Partition Plan (Israel 1947)
The 1947 Partition Plan was a proposal by the United Nations to divide British-controlled Palestine into separate Jewish and Arab states, with Jerusalem as an international city. It aimed to address conflicting national aspirations in the region. The plan recommended allocating specific territories to each community based on demographic and economic considerations. Jewish leaders accepted the plan, seeing it as a step toward independence, but Arab leaders rejected it, opposing the division and demanding all of Palestine remain united under Arab control. The plan's adoption led to increased tensions and the eventual outbreak of conflict surrounding the establishment of Israel.
