Particulate scattering

Particulate scattering occurs when tiny particles in the air, like dust, pollen, or pollution, interact with sunlight. As sunlight hits these particles, it bounces off in different directions rather than passing straight through. This scattering causes the sky to appear blue during the day and can lead to colorful sunsets. The process depends on the size and type of particles; smaller particles scatter shorter (blue) wavelengths more effectively. Particulate scattering plays a key role in weather, climate, and air quality, affecting visibility and how we perceive sunlight and atmospheric colors.
