Particle Image Velocimetry

Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is a fluid motion measurement technique used to visualize and quantify the movement of liquids or gases. It involves seeding a flow with tiny particles that follow the fluid. A laser illuminates these particles, and high-speed cameras capture images of them. By comparing the positions of the particles between two images taken at different times, scientists can calculate the fluid's velocity and flow patterns. PIV is widely used in research and engineering, particularly in aerodynamics and hydrodynamics, to study fluid dynamics in a detailed and comprehensive manner.
