Participatory Assimilation

Participatory assimilation refers to a process where individuals from different cultural backgrounds engage actively with the dominant culture while maintaining aspects of their own identity. Unlike complete assimilation, where a minority culture might entirely adopt the majority's customs, participatory assimilation encourages mutual exchange and collaboration. This means newcomers can adopt elements of the mainstream culture—such as language and social norms—while also contributing their traditions, customs, and perspectives, fostering a more inclusive and diverse society. Essentially, it’s about balancing integration into the new culture with preserving one’s original cultural heritage.
