
Park Chung-hee (President)
Park Chung-hee was a South Korean military officer and politician who served as President from 1963 to 1979. He came to power through a coup and is known for transforming South Korea's economy from agrarian to industrialized, leading to significant economic growth known as the "Miracle on the Han River." His administration was marked by authoritarian rule, suppression of dissent, and human rights abuses. Despite these issues, his policies laid the foundation for South Korea's modern economy. Park was assassinated in 1979, leaving a complex legacy that is still debated in Korean society today.
