Parasomnia Disorders
Parasomnia disorders are abnormal behaviors and experiences that occur during sleep, affecting sleep quality and safety. These can include actions like sleepwalking, sleep talking, night terrors, or even complex behaviors while appearing to be asleep. Individuals may not remember these events upon waking. Parasomnias can happen during different sleep stages, such as REM or non-REM sleep, and may be triggered by stress, sleep deprivation, or certain medications. Effective treatment often involves sleep hygiene improvements, addressing underlying conditions, or, in some cases, medication to manage symptoms and enhance sleep safety.
