Paraneoplastic Glomerular Diseases
Paraneoplastic glomerular diseases are kidney conditions that occur as a response to cancer in the body. When someone has cancer, their immune system can mistakenly attack both the tumor and the kidneys, leading to inflammation and damage in the glomeruli, which are tiny filters in the kidneys. This can result in symptoms like swelling, protein in the urine, and changes in kidney function. These diseases are not caused directly by the cancer but are linked to the body's reaction to it and often require treatment of the underlying cancer to improve kidney health.
