Papal legate
A papal legate is an official representative of the Pope, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church. Appointed by the Pope, a legate carries out diplomatic and religious missions, often acting on behalf of the Vatican in discussions with governments or local churches. They can be sent for various reasons, including to mediate conflicts, promote the Church's interests, or address specific issues. Papal legates can have different ranks, such as nuncios, who represent the Vatican in a country, and are essential in maintaining the Church's global influence and relations.
