Pangasianodon gigas

Pangasianodon gigas, commonly known as the Mekong giant catfish, is a large freshwater fish native to Southeast Asia, particularly the Mekong River. It can grow over 10 feet long and weigh more than 600 pounds, making it one of the biggest freshwater fish worldwide. This species has a pale pinkish-white color and a broad, flat head. It’s primarily a slow-moving, filter-feeding fish that consumes plankton. Due to overfishing, habitat loss, and dam development, the Mekong giant catfish is critically endangered, with only a few remaining in the wild, highlighting the need for conservation efforts.
