Pancreatic IgG4-related disease

Pancreatic IgG4-related disease is a condition where the immune system mistakenly targets the pancreas, causing inflammation and swelling. It is part of a broader group called IgG4-related diseases, characterized by elevated levels of a specific antibody called IgG4. This inflammation can mimic pancreatic cancer because of similar symptoms like jaundice and abdominal pain. However, unlike cancer, this condition often responds well to steroid treatment, which reduces inflammation. Diagnosing requires blood tests, imaging, and sometimes a tissue sample. Recognizing this disease is important to avoid unnecessary surgery and ensure proper management.
