Panamanian military

Panama's military is a small, professional force primarily tasked with national defense, border security, and disaster response. It comprises the Panama Defense Forces (Fuerzas de Defensa de Panamá), which include the National Army, Air Service, and National Police. After the 1989 U.S. invasion that ended military rule, Panama abolished a large standing army and now relies on a limited military capability, with the U.S. and regional allies providing support and training to ensure stability. The force focuses on protecting sovereignty, preventing illicit activities, and assisting in emergencies, functioning under civilian oversight to maintain peaceful governance.
