Pan troglodytes, commonly known as the common chimpanzee, is a species of great ape native to the forests and savannas of Central Africa. They are highly intelligent mammals known for their complex social structures, use of tools, and versatile diets that include fruits, leaves, and insects. Adult males are typically larger and more dominant, forming close-knit communities led by a male alpha. Chimpanzees communicate through vocalizations, gestures, and facial expressions.
