
Pama–Nyungan languages
Pama–Nyungan is the largest and most widespread family of Aboriginal languages in Australia, covering roughly 90% of the continent. These languages share linguistic features that suggest they originated from a common ancestral language. They include diverse languages spoken by Indigenous communities across northern, central, and parts of southern Australia. Despite differences among them, Pama–Nyungan languages often have similar grammatical structures and basic vocabulary, indicating a shared linguistic heritage.
