Palmares Zumbi dos Palmares
Zumbi dos Palmares was a leader of the Quilombo dos Palmares, a large community of escaped slaves and free people in Brazil during the 17th century. Located in what is now Alagoas, this settlement resisted Portuguese colonization and slavery through sustained defense and social organization. Zumbi became a symbol of resistance and the fight for freedom and human rights for Afro-Brazilians. His leadership embodied efforts to preserve African culture and oppose oppression, making him a national hero and an enduring icon of resistance against slavery in Brazil.
