Palio di Siena
The Palio di Siena is a historic, intense horse race held twice a year (in July and August) in Siena, Italy. It features city districts, called contrade, competing in a thrilling race around Siena's main square, Piazza del Campo. Each contrada has its own unique symbol and colors, and the event combines fierce rivalry with centuries-old traditions, including elaborate costumes and ceremonies. The race itself is fast-paced and unpredictable, often driven by jockeys who may or may not be members of the contrada. The Palio symbolizes local pride, community identity, and Siena’s rich medieval heritage.
