Palermo Protocol
The Palermo Protocol, officially known as the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children, is an international agreement adopted in 2000. It aims to combat human trafficking by establishing clear definitions, encouraging cooperation among countries, and promoting victim protection. The Protocol emphasizes that trafficking involves the recruitment, transportation, or harboring of people through deception, force, or coercion for exploitation, such as forced labor or sexual exploitation. It provides frameworks for prevention, law enforcement, and support for victims, helping countries work together to address this global issue effectively.
