Palatinate-Hessen
Palatinate-Hessen was a small, historical territory within the Holy Roman Empire, established in the early 17th century. It originated from the division of the Electorate of the Palatinate and was ruled by a branch of the Wittelsbach family. Located in what is now parts of Germany, it encompassed regions that are mainly in modern Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate. Throughout its existence, Palatinate-Hessen experienced political changes, including ties to larger regional powers, and played a role in broader European conflicts like the Thirty Years' War. It ceased to exist as a distinct entity after the early 19th century due to territorial reorganizations.
