Pakistan Lawyers' Movement
The Pakistan Lawyers’ Movement, also known as the Movement for the Restoration of Judiciary, was a nationwide effort by lawyers and civil society between 2007 and 2009 to oppose the government’s attempt to dismiss the judiciary, especially Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry. The movement aimed to restore judicial independence and uphold the rule of law, rallying protests, strikes, and public support. It played a significant role in challenging authoritarian actions and ultimately contributed to the reinstatement of a more independent judiciary and a shift towards democratic norms in Pakistan.
