Paisii Hilendarski

Paisii Hilendarski was a Bulgarian historian and monk from the 18th century, best known for his work “Istoriya Slavyanobolgarskaya” (Slav-Bulgarian History). This influential book, written in 1762, aimed to inspire national pride and preserve Bulgarian identity during Ottoman rule. Paisii highlighted Bulgaria’s rich history, heroic past, and Christian heritage, helping to awaken a sense of unity among Bulgarians. His work is considered a foundational text for Bulgarian national revival, playing a key role in fostering cultural consciousness and resistance against Ottoman domination.
