Pain Receptors

Pain receptors, also known as nociceptors, are specialized nerve endings located throughout the body, especially in skin, muscles, and joints. They detect harmful or potentially damaging stimuli such as extreme heat, cold, pressure, or chemicals released from injury. When activated, these receptors send electrical signals via nerves to the brain, informing you of pain or potential injury. This process helps protect the body by encouraging you to avoid further harm and initiate healing. In essence, pain receptors serve as alert systems, warning you of threats to your tissues.
