Pain Mechanisms
Pain mechanisms involve complex processes where the nervous system detects, processes, and responds to tissue damage or potential harm. When injury or threat occurs, specialized nerves send signals to the brain, which interprets these signals as pain. This system also involves modulators that can amplify or diminish pain perception, influenced by emotional states, stress, or past experiences. Essentially, pain is a protective warning that helps the body respond to injury, but it can sometimes persist or become amplified even without ongoing damage, due to changes within the nervous system itself.
