PAHs
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a group of chemical compounds made up of multiple connected rings of carbon atoms. They are commonly formed during the incomplete combustion of organic material such as wood, coal, oil, gasoline, and even food like grilled meat. PAHs can be found in sources like vehicle exhaust, smoke, charred foods, and polluted air. Some PAHs are known to be carcinogenic or harmful to health. Because of their persistence in the environment and potential health risks, monitoring and managing PAH sources is important for public health and pollution control.
