Pact of Biak-na-Bato
The Pact of Biak-na-Bato, signed in 1897, was an agreement between Filipino revolutionaries and Spanish authorities to end the Filipino Revolution temporarily. The revolutionaries agreed to disband their armed forces and surrender weapons in exchange for financial compensation and promises of reforms from Spain. This truce aimed to pause hostilities and address Filipino grievances peacefully. Although the agreement temporarily halted fighting, it did not resolve the underlying issues, and fighting resumed later, leading to the eventual Philippine Revolution's conclusion. The pact remains a significant step in the country’s struggle for independence.
