Pétillant naturel (Pét-nat)
Pétillant naturel, often called Pét-nat, is a style of sparkling wine made using an ancient method called "méthode ancestral." It involves fermenting the wine in the bottle without adding extra sugar or pressure, resulting in naturally occurring bubbles. Unlike Champagne or other traditional sparkling wines, Pét-nat is usually less processed, often cloudy, and may have a slightly frothy or unpredictable character. It emphasizes freshness and fruitiness, offering a lively, organic expression of the wine’s terroir. Pét-nat is appreciated for its rustic charm and unique, often spontaneous, qualities that reflect its natural fermentation process.
