Oyster (Pinctada fucata)

Oyster (Pinctada fucata) is a marine mollusk known for producing pearls and its valuable calcified shell. It lives attached to seabeds in shallow coastal waters, filtering plankton and organic particles for food. The oyster's shell is smooth, oval, and layered with calcium carbonate, providing protection. When irritants enter the oyster, it deposits layers of nacre around them, forming a pearl over time. This species is important both ecologically, for maintaining water quality, and economically, due to pearl farming. Pinctada fucata is widely cultivated in aquaculture, especially in regions like Japan and the Indian Ocean.
