Oxime therapies
Oxime therapies are medical treatments used to reverse poisonings from certain nerve agents and pesticides that impair the nervous system. These agents work by blocking important enzymes, causing harmful build-up of chemicals that disrupt nerve signals. Oximes, such as pralidoxime, help by restoring enzyme activity, effectively “reactivating” these enzymes and stopping the poison’s effects. They are often administered alongside other treatments, like antidotes and supportive care, to improve survival and recovery in poisoning cases. Oxime therapies are vital tools in managing specific types of poisoning, especially in emergency and military settings.
