Overnet
Overnet was an early peer-to-peer file sharing network that enabled users to share and download files directly from each other's computers, bypassing centralized servers. It operated using a decentralized system, where each participant contributed to the network’s stability and file availability. This structure made it more resilient and harder to shut down. Overnet became well-known as the underlying technology for the eDonkey network, facilitating large-scale sharing of files such as music and videos. While innovative, Overnet's approach also raised concerns about copyright infringement and security.
