ovaries
Ovaries are small, oval-shaped reproductive organs located on each side of a woman’s lower abdomen. They produce eggs (ova) necessary for reproduction and release one during each menstrual cycle. Additionally, ovaries produce important hormones such as estrogen and progesterone, which regulate the menstrual cycle, support pregnancy, and influence female secondary sexual characteristics like breast development. They are essential for fertility and overall hormonal balance. Each ovary contains thousands of tiny follicles, each holding an immature egg, which mature and are released during ovulation.
