Ovarian follicles

Ovarian follicles are small, fluid-filled sacs in the ovaries that contain immature eggs, called oocytes. Each month during a woman's reproductive cycle, typically one follicle matures and releases an egg in a process called ovulation. Follicles also produce hormones like estrogen, which help regulate the menstrual cycle and prepare the body for potential pregnancy. They develop in stages, starting from small, immature forms to fully mature ones ready to release an egg. The health and number of these follicles can influence fertility and overall reproductive health.
