Outdoor Access Scotland

Outdoor Access Scotland provides the legal right for people to explore and enjoy Scotland’s outdoor land and water—such as walking, cycling, or picnicking—while respecting the environment and landowners. It covers most land and inland water, excluding private gardens and certain areas. The purpose is to promote outdoor recreation, health, and well-being, ensuring people can responsibly access natural spaces without damaging or disturbing others’ property. Managed by the Scottish Outdoor Access Code, it balances public rights with land management needs, encouraging outdoor activities that are safe, considerate, and sustainable.
