osteopetrosis

Osteopetrosis is a rare genetic condition where bones become abnormally dense and thick due to impaired activity of cells that normally break down bone tissue. This results in bones that are overly dense, yet weaker and more prone to fractures. The abnormal bone growth can also compress nerves and affect bone marrow, leading to issues like anemia and increased infection risk. Symptoms vary from mild to severe and may include frequent fractures, bone pain, or neurological problems. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms and preventing complications, sometimes involving medications, surgeries, or bone marrow transplants.
