Osteopathic Medical Schools
Osteopathic medical schools train future physicians to practice osteopathic medicine, which emphasizes a holistic approach to healthcare. This includes not only treating illnesses but also promoting overall wellness and prevention. Osteopathic physicians (DOs) receive training similar to allopathic physicians (MDs), but they also learn osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), a hands-on technique to diagnose and treat certain conditions. DOs can specialize in any area of medicine and have similar licensing and practice rights as MDs. The philosophy focuses on the interconnectedness of body systems and the importance of compassion in patient care.
