Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bone Disease)
Osteogenesis Imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease, is a genetic condition that weakens bones, making them fragile and more prone to fractures even with minor injuries or stress. It results from problems in producing healthy collagen, a protein vital for strong bones. People with this condition may experience frequent fractures, shorter stature, weak muscles, joint problems, and sometimes hearing loss. Although it varies in severity, there is no cure. Treatments focus on preventing fractures, managing pain, and improving quality of life through physical therapy, medications, and lifestyle adjustments.
