Osteochondral Allograft

An osteochondral allograft is a medical procedure where healthy bone and cartilage tissue from a donor is transplanted into a damaged area of a patient’s joint, typically the knee or ankle. This transplant helps restore the joint’s surface, reducing pain and improving function. The procedure is often used for large cartilage defects that do not heal on their own, providing a biological repair that can last years. Because the graft includes both cartilage and underlying bone, it supports natural joint movement and helps preserve joint health. This technique offers an alternative to joint replacement, especially in younger patients.
