Ossuaries

An ossuary is a container, often a box or chest, used to hold and store human skeletal remains, typically after the flesh has decomposed. This practice was common in various ancient cultures, especially in Israel and surrounding areas, to conserve burial space or as part of specific burial rituals. Ossuaries often feature inscriptions or decorative carvings, providing information about the deceased.
