Ossetia
Ossetia is a region in the Caucasus mountains, divided into North Ossetia (part of Russia) and South Ossetia (de facto independent but internationally recognized as part of Georgia). The area is inhabited mainly by Ossetians, an ethnic group with a distinct language and culture. Historically, Ossetia has been a crossroads for empires, leading to complex political tensions. South Ossetia declared independence from Georgia in the early 1990s, leading to conflict and ongoing disputes. Its status remains unresolved, with most countries recognizing South Ossetia as part of Georgia, though Russia and some others support its autonomy.
