Osmoreceptors
Osmoreceptors are specialized cells in the body that detect changes in the concentration of salt and other small particles in your blood and fluids. Located mainly in the hypothalamus, they monitor how concentrated your blood is—whether it’s too salty or too diluted. When they sense increased salt levels or dehydration, they signal your brain to trigger thirst and release hormones like vasopressin (antidiuretic hormone) to conserve water and restore balance. These receptors help maintain your body's fluid levels and electrolyte balance, essential for normal cell function and overall health.
