Osler's sign
Osler's sign is a clinical indicator used by healthcare providers to identify a specific type of heart valve problem called mitral stenosis. When a doctor gently taps or presses on a person’s forehead or neck, they may notice a slight flickering or twitching of the eyelid or other areas. This response occurs because increased pressure in the heart’s left side transmits to the small blood vessels and nerves in the face or head, leading to this subtle twitch. Osler's sign helps in diagnosing the severity of mitral stenosis and assessing the effects of the heart condition.
